Frequently Asked Questions

Trying to Adult RVA was established in October 2021 by Sam to create a fun, community-driven way for people to meet and enjoy new experiences together. What started as a small idea grew into a vibrant community with hundreds of events and thousands of new friendships! To learn more about our origins, check out our About Page.

Memberships and access passes help us keep Trying to Adult RVA running strong and fun for everyone. They allow us to create a high-quality, engaging community where people can consistently connect, try new things, and enjoy well-organized experiences.

Your membership gives you free or reduced-price access passes and discounts on special events. It also helps us keep the group positive and active while supporting our leadership team so we can plan even better events for you and our community.

We offer different membership tiers to fit your needs — you can learn more on our Membership Page.

No, you don’t need a membership to attend certain events! We host monthly New Friend Socials that are open to everyone—both members and non-members. If you're new and want to try out the community first, these events are a great starting point.

You can also purchase individual access passes to join other events without a membership, giving you flexibility to participate in the experiences you want. If you are interested in becoming a member, you can learn more on our Membership Page.

We offer two membership tiers: standard and premium. Each tier comes with different perks, such as free or discounted access passes, discounted event tickets, and exclusive member-only experiences. You can see the full benefits of each tier on our Membership Page.

Classic Events are the ones we host regularly, such as trivia, karaoke, book club, and more — these are our tried-and-true favorites.

Special Events are more unique and change from month to month. They could include arcade nights, special dinners, sporting outings, and other fun experiences that you won’t see every week.

Our community is open to anyone 21 and up! While our average participant age is 30, we welcome adults of all ages who want to have fun and make new friends.

Yes! As a member, you can bring one guest to most events. Please ensure that you buy a ticket for your guest when signing up — they will have the same pricing as you when you add a ticket for them. Our Monthly New Friend Socials, which are highly sought-after and open to all, allow one ticket per person, so each guest will need their own individual ticket.

Absolutely! Many attendees come solo and find it a great way to meet new people. Don’t feel pressured to know anyone beforehand; most people are there to make new connections. If you're feeling anxious, reach out to a New Friend Lead or Ambassador - they’re there to help you feel at ease!

We make it easy! Look for the event host(s) or the Trying to Adult RVA sign with our logo at the meeting point. Hosts will also be wearing name tags and will email any relevant meeting information ahead of time. If you have trouble finding us, you can request help via the "Your Upcoming Events" tab on your Member Dashboard once you're logged in. Doing this will send your message to all event hosts and volunteers for that particular event.

Our events go beyond casual meetups—our team invests time and resources to create meaningful, enjoyable experiences. Costs include venue rentals, food and beverage minimums, event materials, and behind-the-scenes expenses like website management and credit card processing. This helps ensure that we can continue offering great events!

Yes! Our New Friend Socials are completely free and open to everyone. Members also enjoy access to multiple free events each month. Since free events fill up quickly, we recommend signing up early or considering a Premium Membership for access to more free events.

If an event is full, you can join the waitlist on our website. When spots open up, an email notification will be sent — first to Premium members, then Standard members, and finally anyone else on the waitlist. Spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so the first person to claim the open spot on the website will get it.

Once an event is sold out, no additional tickets will be available for immediate purchase. You can join the waitlist on our website in case spots open up. Be sure to check our social media or event pages for updates. Remember, you must have a ticket from our website to attend.

Parking availability varies by event. We always do our best to provide parking info in advance, so check the event description for details before heading out!

Unfortunately, tickets cannot be transferred or resold. If you’re unable to attend, you can request a refund on our website. If someone else claims your spot from the waitlist, a refund will be automatically issued. For free events, you can simply update your ticket to release it, making it available for someone else to claim.

We’re always open to ideas! If you have an event suggestion, use our Event Suggestion Form to share it with us. We love hearing from our members!

Yes! We recruit for leadership positions twice a year. If you’re interested in getting more involved, keep an eye on our announcements in June and December. We’d love to have passionate members contribute to the future of Trying to Adult RVA!

To ensure we have enough space and a comfortable environment for everyone, we set attendee limits. Larger events without a reserved space can make it hard to connect. By limiting numbers, we can provide a more intimate, welcoming experience. If an event fills up, we encourage you to join the waitlist in case spots become available.
