Membership Rules
Trying to Adult RVA is a social group with membership options that give you extra perks and access. While some events are open to the public, many are reserved for members or require an access pass. Membership enrollment is done solely via the Trying to Adult RVA website, and memberships via any other platform are not accepted.
Standard and Premium members can bring one guest per event, who will receive the same discounted pricing under the member’s plan. Additional guests will need their own membership or must purchase an individual ticket or access pass.
Memberships can be managed anytime through our website, and while you can cancel at any time, please note that there are no refunds for already paid months.
Participation Rules
All attendees and members are expected to be respectful and kind to all other attendees, members, Trying to Adult leadership team, event staff, and all people involved with Trying to Adult RVA. If you violate this rule, you can be prohibited from attending events at the discretion of Trying to Adult’s RVA leadership team.
You must be 21 years old or older to attend any Trying to Adult RVA event. Regardless of the event, anyone under the age of 21 is not allowed to join the Trying to Adult RVA group or its events. Trying to Adult RVA does not provide alcohol to members, however, alcohol may be available at events based on venue and the applicable ABC laws. Trying to Adult RVA encourages attendees to drink responsibly. If you appear to be intoxicated at an event Trying to Adult RVA leadership has the right to call the local police if there is any concern for others. While we are “trying” to adult, please be responsible for yourself and use public transit or ride share if you plan to drink at any event. Trying to Adult RVA is not responsible for the decisions or results thereof of any event attendee.
At the discretion of Trying to Adult RVA leadership, any member can be removed from the group and banned from attending any Trying to Adult RVA events if they violate any rules.
Attendance Rules
All event attendance updates and refund requests are managed directly through your member profile on the Trying to Adult RVA website.
Paid Events: If you can no longer attend, you may request a refund through your member profile. Your refund will be automatically processed if another participant claims your spot.
Free Events: If you can no longer attend, simply update your RSVP status to Not Going through your member profile.
This process ensures that spots open back up for others who want to attend. Please do not use outside payment apps or contact hosts directly for exchanges—everything must go through the website.
Any member who no-shows to 3 events will be removed from the group and banned from attending events. Requests to rejoin can be made. Rejoin request approvals and denials are subject to the discretion of the Trying to Adult RVA leadership team. Please view our re-entry policy for additional detail.
‘No-show’ means you signed up for an event and did not attend and did not update your profile to note you were no longer attending.
Re-entry Policy
If you were removed from Trying to Adult RVA and prohibited from attending events due to no-shows, you can request to rejoin. The request is subject to approval by the Trying to Adult RVA leadership team. If your request is accepted, to return, you must complete the two following requirements:
- A one-month probation period. During that probation period, you will be prohibited from attending events and prohibited from claiming tickets to future events.
- If this is your first offense, you will pay a $25 fee. This fee increases by $25 after every re-entry in the one-year period (i.e. second offense $50, third offense $75, and so on). Re-entry will give you two additional no-show passes before being subject to the same policy requirements. Someone from the Trying to Adult RVA leadership team will advise on how to pay this fee when the time comes.
Return/Refund Policy for Events
Once you claim a ticket via the Trying to Adult RVA website, you are expected to show for that event.
If it is a free event, please notify the event host if you are no longer able to attend so that your ticket can be made available to others. Please read the attendance rules for more information.
If it is a paid event, you are responsible for finding a replacement if you can no longer attend. The replacement cannot be a banned/removed member. The best way to find a replacement is to post a comment on the specific Meetup event page. You can also message the event host for additional assistance. Once you find a replacement, please send a message to the event host to assist with the exchange. Please do not use payment apps to exchange tickets. If you cannot find someone to claim your spot, you will forfeit the cost paid.
