Volunteer: The Doorways – Donating and Serving Dinner to Residents
November 24th 5:00PM
November 24, 2023
$17.00BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! I got SO many requests to come back.
We are volunteering in two ways to support our local RVA based non-profit. We are buying, cooking, and serving dinner to the guests staying at the Doorways, and secondly, we are helping clean up outdoors and windows of the rooms and facility.
Who is The Doorways? The Doorways provides lodging and support to thousands of families every year who need to be close to life-saving medical care in Richmond. With 117 rooms, they are one of the largest hospitality houses in the country and proudly operate entirely on donations. They are looking for volunteers who are willing to help us provide home cooked meals to families staying with us. Serving meals is more crucial to The Doorways and their guests now than ever before. As more families return to use their services, they are relying on our generosity to ensure they have a warm meal at the end of the night.
Volunteers will help by cleaning out outdoor spaces including guest balconies and the garden area. Tasks include: sweeping, washing windows, and wiping down railings, tables, and chairs. All cleaning supplies will be provided by The Doorways along with gloves and water. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer.
Activities will take place outside and can be socially distanced.
Please wear weather appropriate attire including close toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. This work requires you to be outside at various levels of their building on secure balconies up to 8 stories.
Price for this event is $17 for everyone and is applied to the food and supplies donations to The Doorways. Space is limited to 30.
Once you purchase your spot, please also RSVP for this event on Meetup when it is posted.
There is street parking and 2 parking garages within a block of The Doorways.
REFUND POLICY – PLEASE READ BELOW!
Once you purchase a ticket, you are expected to show for that event. If you can no longer attend, you are responsible for finding a replacement. The replacement must be a current Trying to Adult RVA member unless otherwise approved by someone on the leadership team. It doesn’t matter if they are a regular member or premium member. The best way to find a replacement is to post a comment on the specific Meetup event page. Once you find a replacement, message Sam and she will assist with the exchange. If you cannot find someone to claim your spot, you will forfeit the cost paid.
